Intro to Beginner Novice/Novice  Obedience

Prerequisites: Completion of our Intermediate Obedience class, or CGC title, or with instructor approval.

1 dog per handler

Beginner Novice class is a great “next step” for CGC dogs, since it works on advancing the skills your dog already learned – walking nicely on a leash, acting mannerly while being petted, performing a stay and coming when called.  ALL dogs, including mixed-breeds, are eligible to compete in AKC Obedience trials through AKC Canine Partners.  Beginner Novice is an optional titling Obedience class.  All exercises are conducted on leash with the exception of the recall.

This class is designed to help you and your canine companion develop the essential skills needed to excel in the Beginner Novice obedience competition. Over the next six weeks, we'll cover a range of topics and training exercises to prepare you for the AKC Beginner Novice test.

Competition Heel

Prerequisites: None

1 dog per handler

This class is focused entirely on developing beautiful, precise heeling for AKC obedience competition. Handlers and dogs will work through all the key elements of heeling, including smooth pace changes, clean left and right turns, about turns, automatic sits, prolonged engagement, and quick re-engagement after distractions. The class is suitable for both beginners and experienced teams: beginners and young dogs will use luring to build understanding and confidence, while more advanced teams will focus on marking and reinforcing desirable behaviors (with luring sometimes used to refine details). By the end of the course, each team will be able to put all elements of heeling together into a polished performance. Dogs should know sit and have a basic understanding of engagement with their handler. This class is ideal for anyone preparing to enter the obedience ring, or for handlers who have been working on heeling but feel there are still gaps or struggles in keeping all the pieces together.
